Blackpit raise over £4,000 for Silver Star Charity

Behind the scenes we’re trying to help with charity work, although it’s hard (as a fledgling business) to know how best to give to charity when you’re still trying to make enough money to stay afloat!

Each year we have a good old-fashioned knees up with our friends & families, on the last Saturday before Christmas. We donate all the food and beer and choose just one charity to benefit from the proceeds.

This year we chose the Silver Star Society, based in the Maternity Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. Silver Star do amazing work, helping expectant mothers with complicated pregnancies; something Blackpit Director, Duncan, and his wife Anne, experienced when their son, Huey, was born.

Blackpit Director, Duncan, and his wife Anne, tell the heartfelt story of their first-born, Huey, who nearly didn't make it during pregnancy and shortly after birth.

During this difficult time, Duncan & Anne received a huge amount of support from Silver Star, at the John Radcliffe Hospital, and as a result of this help they have decided to nominate Silver Star for this year's Blackpit Christmas Charity.

We were blown away by everyone’s generosity; there were some huge personal donations, as well as big contributions from our charity raffle and from Buckingham Group Contracting and Buckingham Plant Hire.

We were delighted that Maggie and Professor Chris Redman, founder of the Silver Star Society, came to receive a giant cheque…. Unfortunately Huey, who wouldn’t be here without Silver Star, was busy at school so Leo had to fill in for him!

A huge thank you goes to everyone who donated, from small to big, every bit helped. We were truly amazed by your generosity; together we managed to raise £4,289.50! This money has gone towards the purchase of two new CTG Monitors for the unit.
